  • The percentage of working-age people who live in households where no-one works fell from 13.2 per cent in 1997 to 11.4 per cent in 2008, but then increased to 12.6 per cent in 2009.   
  • Similarly, the percentage of children living in working age households where no-one works fell from 18.8 per cent in 1997 to 15.4 per cent in 2008, but then increased to 16.8 per cent in 2009.
  • Data for the years up to and including1996 are not strictly comparable with data for later years but suggest that the percentage of children in workless households has declined since the mid-nineties.
