  • Between 2003-4 and 2008-9 household waste per person decreased by 6 per cent, with each person on average generating less than half a tonne in 2008-9.
  • The percentage of waste recycled or composted has increased, and accounted for 37 per cent of household waste in 2008-9.
  • There has been a year on year decrease in theĀ  kilograms of non-recycled waste per person over the last seven years. It is now at the lowest level since estimates were first made in 1983-4 - most of this went to landfill.
