The Pigs Branch within Livestock Products Division is responsible for sponsorship of the pigmeat sector. The branch acts as the voice of industry within Defra and also within the European Union (EU) and other Government Departments/Agencies.

Other Government Organisations

Rural Payments Agency (RPA) - an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). It is the single paying agency responsible for CAP schemes in England and certain schemes throughout the UK.

Food Standards Agency - is an independent food safety watchdog set up by an Act of Parliament in 2000 to protect the public's health and consumer interests in relation to food. They also deal with labelling issues.

National Pig Association (NPA) - is active on behalf of members in Brussels and Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets and caterers - fighting for the growth and prosperity of the UK national pig industry.

British Pig Association (BPA) - is committed to maintain the integrity and develop the potential of Britain's unique genetic heritage of pedigree pig breeding stock for the benefit of the Association's members through the management of the independent national pedigree database and the promotion of pedigree pigs to domestic and international markets.

Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) - to help improve the efficiency and competitiveness of various agriculture and horticulture sectors within the UK.

British Pig Executive (BPEX) - represents the interests of pig levy payers throughout Great Britain giving levy payers direct control of determining and implementing a strategy to create a long-term sustainable future for the industry.
