New rules on animal by-products from 4 March 2011

Purpose and background

  1. To advise you that new rules for the importation of animal by-products come into force on 4 March 2011.
  2. We have put some information on our website including a table that shows the main changes between the current rules in Regulation (EC) 1774/2002 and the new rules (PDF).
  3. Whilst the new import rules come into force from 4 March 2011, there will be transitional arrangements which permit the use of existing import documentation until 31 January 2012 provided that the accompanying certificate has been signed before 30 November 2011.
  4. We will be updating our Importer Information Notes and any other relevant information on our website by 4 March.
