ARCHIVE: Imports - OVS Note 10/63
Update on import conditions for Bivalve Molluscs, Echinoderms, Tunicates and marine Gastropods from Chile
Purpose
To advise you that:
The Commission published Decision 2010/725/EU on Saturday 27 November 2010, amending Annex I to Decision 2006/766/EC as regards the entry for Chile in the list of third countries from which imports of bivalve molluscs, echinoderms, tunicates and marine gastropods for human consumption are permitted. A link to the Decision follows: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2010:312:0045:0046:EN:PDF
Background
Annex I of Decision 2006/766/EC listed a restriction which only permitted frozen or processed bivalve molluscs, echinoderms, tunicates and marine gastropods intended for human consumption to be exported from Chile to the EU.
In addition to EU controls in Chile, the Commission has received appropriate guarantees from the Chilean Authorities that the conditions in Chile applicable to chilled and eviscerated bivalve molluscs belonging to the family of Pectinidae wild or harvested in class A production areas and destined for export to the EU are equivalent to those in the EU.
Therefore Decision 2010/725/EU replaces the title of Annex I to Decision 2006/766/EC and the entry for Chile in Annex I with immediate effect.
The purpose of this letter is to alert BIPs of this change.
