ARCHIVE: Imports - OVS Note 10/48
Introduction into the EU of fishery products from third countries previously landed by member states’ fishing vessels
This letter is addressed to Border Inspection Posts and Chief Port Health Officers in England only. It has also been sent to nominated officers for imported food.
The Commission have written to Member States to advise that consignments of fishery products, which are unloaded from an EU fishing vessel in a third country prior to despatch to the EU, should be considered as third country imports and as such be subject to veterinary checks at BIPs.
For further information please see the Commission’s letter.
The advice contained in this letter should not be taken as an authoritative statement of the law or its interpretation. Only the courts can decide whether in particular circumstances an offence has been committed.
I hope that this is helpful but if you need any further information please let me know. The Agency’s imports section on our website can be found at http://www.food.gov.uk/imports
