ARCHIVE: International trade: Exports of live animals - legal basis for trade
Where exports take place under European Union (EU) harmonised rules, the trade requirements are laid down in relevant EC Directives and Decisions. In Great Britain, these rules are implemented in The Animals and Animal Products (Import and Export) (England) Regulations 2006, and their equivalent in Scotland and Wales. These Regulations have been amended twice since they were introduced and their amendments are the Animals and Animal Products (Import and Export) (England) (Laboratories, Circuses and Avian Quarantine) Regulations (SI 2007/1621) (75 KB) and the Animals and Animal Products (Import and Export)(England) (Amendment) Regulations 2007 (SI 2007/3277) (19 KB). An unofficial consolidated version of these Regulations (1667 KB) is available. Similar legislation applies in Scotland and Wales.
