Environmental impact: Landscape

Indicator DF2: New woodland planting

Data on new woodland planting can give an indication of the growth in woodland area across the country, which has an important influence on landscape, biodiversity and water.

Chart DF2 shows the level of planting on non-Forestry Commission land in England since 2000/01.

  • The area of new planting on non-Forestry Commission land is estimated to have increased in 2009/10. New planting in 2001 may have been affected by FMD restrictions which were in force during the year.
  • Levels of restocking declined gradually between 2000/01 and 2005/06. After increases in each of the following two years, there was since been little change in the area restocked.

This indicator was updated in July 2010. The next update will be in June 2011.
