ARCHIVE: EU and international science: Framework Programme Project Information

Introduction

The European Commission’s CORDIS website contains information on all types of projects funded under the current Seventh research Framework Programme as well as the previous Sixth, Fifth and Fourth Framework Programmes. The following links provide information about those projects that  fall within the policy interests of Defra.

Seventh Framework Programme

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) runs from 2007-13. The “Environment (including climate change)” and “Food, agriculture and fisheries , and biotechnology” themes are of most relevance to Defra’s interests and strategic priorities.

“Environment (including climate change)”

The Commission has published a compilation (PDF, 1.7 MB) of the catalogues of projects from the 2007, 2008 and 2009 calls

“Food, agriculture and fisheries , and biotechnology”

The Commission has published interim catalogues of projects funded under the 2007 and 2008 calls: Activity 2.1 Sustainable Production (PDF 30 MB); Activity 2.2 Food (PDF 19 MB); and Activity 2.3 Biotechnologies (PDF 17 MB).

Sixth Framework Programme

The Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) ran between 2002-6. This section contains latest details of funded projects from FP6 calls in the areas of relevance to Defra’s policy objectives and interests.

Thematic Priority Area 1.1.5 “Food Quality and Safety”

This theme aimed to improve the well-being of EU citizens through higher quality food and improved control of food production and related environmental factors. In November 2007, the Commission published a catalogue (PDF, 10.4 MB) of all 181 projects funded under this strand of FP6.

Thematic Priority Area 1.6.3 “Global Change and Ecosystems”

The activities under this theme covered most of the environmental research funded under FP6. The Commission has published a catalogue (PDF, 5.7 MB) detailing some 280 projects funded within this area.

Thematic Priority Area 1.2.1 “Scientific Support to Policies (SSP)”

This theme aimed to underpin the formulation and implementation of Community policies, such as the CAP, CFP, the environment and consumer protection. It included a special call dedicated to Influenza research (PDF, 8.5 MB).

ERA-Nets

ERA-Nets were introduced in FP6 to provide funding for the transnational networking and coordination of national and regional research programmes, and were aimed at national and regional programme funders and managers, covering coordinated actions in any field of science and technology. Details of ERA-Nets funded between 2003-06 can be accessed below:

1st Call (Series 1) (PDF, 1.8 MB)
2nd Call (Series 2) (PDF, 1.7 MB)
3rd Call (Series 3) (PDF, 2.7 MB)
4th Call (Series 4) (PDF, 2.1 MB)
5th Call (Series 5) (PDF, 2.9 MB)

Fifth Framework Programme

The Fifth Framework Programme (FP5), funded between 1998-2002, had a multi-theme structure. The “Quality of Life” theme included actions on Infectious Diseases (Key Action 2); Environment and Health (Key Action 4); and Sustainable Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (Key Action 5). The Commission published reports of projects within Key Action 4 on environment and health (PDF, 13 MB) in July 2007.

Fourth Framework Programme

The Fourth Framework Programme (FP4) ran between 1994-98. Agriculture and fisheries and environment related projects were funded in the “FAIR” and “Environment and Climate” programmes of FP4.
