Background
The Sector guidance (SG) notes below are issued by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
From April 2008 they will be issued under regulation 64 of the Environmental Permitting Regulations. In accordance with paragraph 12.4 of the general guidance manual on policy and procedures for A2 and B installations, any previously published SG notes shall be taken to have been issued under regulation 64.
The SG notes form statutory guidance on what constitute the Best Available Techniques for LA-IPPC installations (also known as A2 installations) for each of the main installations regulated and local authorities must have regard to them.
All SG notes are subject to a formal consultation exercise, undertaken by Defra and WAG, which allows relevant stakeholders, to comment on their content before they are issued.
Also see the general guidance manual on policy and procedures for local authority regulated PPC installations.
