ARCHIVE: Board members and appointments

Defra is responsible for the appointment to boards of its NDPBs and Public Corporations. Defra makes all appointments following Nolan Principles and the guidelines laid down in the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA) Code of Practice.

The central appointments team ensure that all appointments follow Cabinet Office and the OCPA (Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments) guidance and that the appointments process is fair, transparent and equitable.

The strategic aspects of the appointment process, such as drawing up the job and person specification, interviewing candidates, secretarial duties for such interviews and making recommendations to Ministers, will continue to remain the responsibility of the sponsor team.
