ARCHIVE: Defra's diversity strategy

The Diversity Strategy and the action plans within each of the Equality Schemes will be key in driving diversity and equality throughout Defra in 2008 and beyond. To further support the embedding of diversity throughout the organisation Defra will continue to strengthen its diversity governance arrangements.

All areas of the Department are represented and fully engaged in the Diversity Champions group chaired by Helen Ghosh, Defra’s Diversity Champion, this leads to greater influence, reach and accountability.

Action Plan in response to the Civil Service Strategy

Promoting Equality, Valuing Diversity – a strategy for the Civil Service was published in July 2008 and reflects the drive to mainstream equality and diversity further into every aspect of the work of the whole civil service. Defra has produced an action plan setting out what we will be doing to support the delivery of the wider Civil Service Strategy.  This action plan aligns the existing commitments outlined in the Defra Diversity strategy and Equality schemes with the four key themes of the Civil Service Strategy.
