ARCHIVE: Involving staff in gender equality

The activities of the Defra staff networks help to contribute towards and deliver against Defra’s Diversity Strategy and the objectives set out in the Equality Schemes.  They are formally supported by the Diversity Team and also have the support from the highest level, Helen Ghosh, our Permanent Secretary and Defra’s Diversity Champion.

The Work-Life Balance Network (WLBN) is the recognised Defra support network for all those working a non-standard week, whether that means fewer or shorter days per week, term-time only, 9-day fortnight or any combination or variation of these. It also includes those who work from home for all or part of the time on an ad hoc or regular basis, for whatever reason.

The WLBN are also invited to comment on HR policy development. It meets quarterly with colleagues in HR to consider how employment policies reflect the needs of disabled employees.
