Making all communications usable by disabled and Deaf people is a big job. We have a plan to do this a bit at a time.
We have had rules for Clear English since 2006.
Some of the things we still need to do are:
Make our staff magazine better.
Make all our documents available in other formats.
Make sure our communications are easy to read and use.
Natural England pays farmers to make routes in the countryside for the public. There are about 2,000 of these. About 46 are for disabled and Deaf people.
Defra looked at these routes. We aimed to:
Give details to help disabled people plan their visit.
Suggest ways to make these places easier to use.
About 10 of the places were not easy to use. Natural England is working to make these better.
From this work other ideas have come up, like:
Talking to local disability groups when making new easy to use routes.
Regular work to keep the routes easy to use.
